Mental health is treatable
At the Mental Health Center of Denver (MHCD) we know recovery is possible because we see it happen every day. The vision of Reaching Recovery is to transform the mental health system from one which helps people stabilize their illness to one which helps people achieve a full and meaningful life in spite of their illness.
The Reaching Recovery Initiative is a national learning collaborative working with other mental health centers focused on recovery systems transformation. Partners of the collaborative use common data and common ways of measuring recovery outcomes to inform clinical practice. Partners learn from each other what works best to help people recover as measured by research instruments. Reaching Recovery began when MHCD wanted to:
- Use data to demonstrate how people get better with treatment.
- Be able to tell the story of how services save money with real data.
MHCD began our recovery transformation process – which lasted several years – with logic modeling and statistical expertise to insure reliability and validity of the data. In the process, we obtained valuable input from all stakeholders, including consumers, case managers, managers, and psychiatrists. This helped us sharpen our focus on recovery and long-term success for consumers and led to the conceptual framework of The Four Measures of Recovery that provide a constant feedback loop about consumer’s recovery.
The Four Measures of Recovery are outcome instruments that provide a great resource for mental health centers to look at new ways to provide effective services and lays the foundation for an organization to really focus on recovery.
If you are interested in viewing the recovery research instruments in detail, please email us at reachingrecovery@mhcd.org. We would be happy to schedule a webinar for you.
